PROFILE: The John & Jacolyn Bucksbaum Family Foundation was established in 2007. It was founded by real estate mogul John Bucksbaum and his wife, Jacolyn, who worked in entertainment. John Bucksbaum was chairman and CEO of General Growth Properties, a publicly traded real estate investment trust cofounded by his late father. He went on to found Bucksbaum Retail Properties in Chicago. The foundation does not maintain a website, restricting information on its priority areas and grantmaking strategies. Tax documents suggest that the foundation focuses on early childhood development, Jewish education, excellence in sports and the arts and civic organizations in Aspen and Chicago.
Jacolyn is a coco-founded the the Focus Foundation, which supports children who have genetically-based disabilities. She also serves on the board of the Chicago International Film Festival. Other Chicago grantees include Temple Sholom of Chicago, World Sport Chicago, the Obama Foundation, the Latin School of Chicago and the Field Museum, where John serves on the board of trustees.
Grants range from under $5,000 to about $150,000. In a recent fiscal year, the foundation gave away around $1.6 million.
The John & Jacolyn Bucksbaum Family Foundation keeps a low profile and does not accept unsolicited proposals.
